Flourishing is About Creating The Most Favorable Conditions for You
Flourishing is about blooming where you are planted and then improving that place as needed!

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt you were at your very best, contented, growing, prospering and flourishing? Or, a semi-prospering situation and realized that you could make it exactly what you needed in order to flourish?
I have been in those situations. I’ve also been in situations like negative work environments and my own negative attitude. I was definitely not flourishing. As I looked deep inside, I decided to create my own environment where I knew I would flourish. It all started on the inside where it began to change every part of me.
Flourishing is not random.
It’s about living life to its fullest and best.
Here is the definition of Flourish; “of a person, animal, or other living organism) grow or develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially as the result of a particularly favorable environment.”
Plants require the correct environment in order to grow and it’s the same with people.
Some environments just feel good and your soul and spirit are at rest.
Other environments feel oppressive and it seems you’re shrinking, not growing.
What is required in order to flourish?
Good Soil surrounds a plant, holds it up and feeds it.
People. In order to flourish we must surround ourselves with people who are positive, uplifting and caring. Good friends feed your heart and soul and you do the same for them.
Places. Staying in a negative work environment drains you. You are not fed, you are not flourishing, you are only surviving. A toxic environment steals our hopes and dreams as it poisons the soil we are living in.
Change. At times, the only way to regain that particularly favorable environment is to make changes. Move, get a new job, find new friends, or work on your attitude.
Plants outgrow their container and if the are not transplanted, they begin to die. Humans face the same thing with this difference - we can choose to change, to uproot our selves, to create the environment that enables us to flourish.
Steps to Flourish
Evaluate the soil you’re planted in. Who and what surrounds you?
Move into the sunshine so that you can see the people, places, things or habits that energize you.
Do some pruning. Plants need to be pruned. Some dead leaves or branches need to be removed. Pray, get some rest, and begin journaling how you see your particularly favorable environment. Get creative and write down everything that helps you flourish.
Water. Without water, we cannot live. Find some fresh water - ideas, people, places, things, hobbies, etc., and begin drinking them into your very being. Flowers die quickly if they are not supplied with water. There is life in water. It satisfies and quenches our thirst. Find the things that quench your thirst to flourish, prosper, be joyful, grow and live fully.
We are meant to flourish in a particularly favorable environment, not shrivel up and die in a toxic desert.
Take a good, honest look at your life and ask yourself if you are flourishing. If not, make some decisions on what you want your life (soil and water) to look like and the steps you will take. Then implement your plan.
You may need to make big decisions like getting a new job, or pruning away some people.
Look at yourself to see if some of your habits or ways of thinking need change. Are they helping you flourish or are you dying of thirst?
Slowly and steadily transform your environment. It will fit you, feel amazing, feed your heart and soul, give you hope and you will flourish.
It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen if you’re intentional.
A positive, settled, decisive attitude will get you to your goal.
What helps you flourish? Have you ever had to change your environment to grow?
